Akere Muna, has been sentenced to three years in prison, suspended five years, for "forgery and use of forgery" according to a court decision obtained this Wednesday.

Just a day after the declaration of the Presidential Elections results, Tuesday October 24th, Mr. Akere Muna was found guilty of "concealing proceedings" and "forgery and use of forgery" in a family inheritance case, according to the ruling.

The Yaoundé Administrative Center court sentenced him to "three years in prison, suspended for five years."

Meaning the ruling has been passed, but will be delayed for five years, during which an appeal can be made.

Mr. Muna was also ordered to pay 10 million FCFA in damages, a fine and court fees of 1.5 million FCFA.

This judgment is not final. It can be appealed and then reviewed by the Supreme Court.

The judgment was issued following a complaint by his younger sister, former minister of Culture; Ama Tutu Muna, over the management of the property their late father, former Prime Minister; the Late ST Muna, left behind for them.

Ama Tutu Muna believes that her elder brother took over management of their father's property without justification. She claims she was not aware of any judgement of heredity, after her father's passing.

Akere Muna's lawyers deny her claims.
