Pastor Bans UB Choir from performing at Presbyterian Church Nsimeyong; Yaoundé

The University of Buea(UB) Choir, on Sunday August 19th, got prohibited from performing at a concert at the Presbyterian church Nsimeyong, Yaoundé.

They had long before planned the concert, and the Parish Pastor of the congregation; Reverend Motopoh, had given his approval.

Hours before they went on stage, after guests  were sitted and longing to be thrilled by the melodious voices of the UB Choristers, Reverend Motopoh received a phone call from the Presbytery Secretary; Reverend Massock, who told him that the UB Choir should not be allowed to perform at the PC Nsimeyong church because they are a non-denominational group.

That's how reverend Matopoh broke the news to the choristers who were disappointed, as over 1,500 guests were already sitted waiting for the UB Choir to take the stage.

"I am new in this parish. I have been here only for 9 months, so I had no idea they had no right to perform here. If they think they are a gospel choir, then they should identify themselves with a church, so they have no such problems in the future"- Reverend Matopoh told a media outlet.

The president of the UB Choir; Nkwenti Lionel, said he felt like that decision was a personal decision made by Reverend Massock, and it had nothing to do with the fact that they are a non-denominational group.

He said they have tried to see Reverend Massock several times, but the clergyman has refused to see them and has even called them a 'Political Choir.'

With motivation from the University of Buea Alumni students who were among the guests, the UB Choir was encouraged to take their concert to the streets of Nsimeyong. That is where they performed and the guests left happy.

It is worthy to note that the UB Choir has performed at Presbyterian churches before, all around the national sphere, so this incident raises alot of eyebrows.
