North West Medics pay homage to murdered nurses

Dozens of medics in the North West Region of Cameroon came out in their numbers on Wednesday to pay their last respect to two of their colleagues who were shot over the weekend in Mbengwi.

The medics paraded the streets of Mbengwi, brandishing pictures of their departed colleagues while chanting songs of sorrow, as they escorted deceased to their graves.

The deceased, Nancy Azah and her husband, Njong Paddisco, both nurses who ran separate clinics in Mbengwi, were allegedly shot by soldiers on their way back from farm.

They were buried on Wednesday, leaving behind five children to mourn their sudden departure to eternity.

Their killing has provoked outrage in the medical corps in the North West Region of Cameroon as they feel unsafe with the current turn of events.

Reports have emerged in recent weeks accusing soldiers of invading health centres in the two English-speaking regions of Cameroon and attacking medics for treating alleged separatists

In May, the Chairman of the Social Democratic Front Ni John Fru Ndi accused Cameroonian security forces of pulling out a wounded teenager and his brother from a clinic in Santa before shooting them to death.
