Catholic Bishops urge government to investigate the demise of father Alexandre Sob

The National Episcopal Conference of Cameroon has urged the government to open investigations into the killing of a Catholic priest Rev Alexander Nougi Sob, last month in the South West Region of Cameroon.
Meeting in Yaounde on August 7, the members of the standing committee of the National Episcopal Conference of Cameroon condemned the killing of the priest and called on the government to open investigations.

“We call on the competent authorities to carry out investigations so that the perpetuators of this abominable crime may be made to answer for their action before the legal competent authority…” the Bishops said in a statement.

The men of God also used the opportunity to call for an end to the “useless and senseless civil war” that has led to several persons dead as well as displaced.

“Let us put an end to all forms of violence and stop killing one another! We are all brothers and sisters; let us retrace the path of dialogue, reconciliation, justice and peace,” the Bishops pleaded.

Alexander Nougi Sob was killed by a stray bullet in Muyuka in July, following violent clashes between security forces and separatist fighters in the area.

His death was received with great shock by Christians and sundry, who confirmed they saw him in the morning before his eventual demise in the afternoon.

He will be laid to rest on Friday 10 August in Buea
