Panic grip Anglophones in Douala as military raids persist

Dozens of English speaking Cameroonians are being arrested in Douala daily, as part of a military strategy to curb the influx of Anglophones suspected of being Ambazonia fighters.

Neighbourhoods in the town such as Bonaberi, which harbours majorly of Anglophones, has been the main target of the military in recent days, who have carried out arbitrary arrest in localities such as Ndobo, Carrefour Music, Mabanda etc.

Innocent civilians who have managed to flee the perilous North West and South West regions have been caught in this arbitrary arrest net for no wrong dooing, even when in possession of their national identity card.

“ We are scared, it would have been better for us to be kidnapped by Ambazonia fighters, than for us to be unjustly arrested in a town where we’ve come for refuge,” a source told Beta Tinz.

In Douala right now it wouldn’t be unfair to say that someone can be arrested for merely speaking English.

Family relatives continue to suffer the pain of losing a loved one, especially as the arrested persons are usually taken to unknown locations for detention.
