Momo Bertrand is transforming Cameroon’s digital Communication

Often known as Mr. Purple, Momo Bertrand is one of the foremost communication experts in Cameroon.

Graduating as valedictorian from CUIB, Momo joined a leadership training company in Buea.  There, he facilitated trainings & retreats for giants like Total and Eneo.

However, 8 months into the job, he decided to embark on the path of entrepreneurship. “I wanted to be a job creator, not a job seeker.”

Momo turned his university passion, freelance marketing, into a full-fledged marketing and communications agency, www.Momob.biz in 2016.

Beginnings were tough. “Throughout the first year, I had no major client. But I had to keep working hard,” Momo says, clenching his fists emphasize on hard. “I had to teach myself marketing through certifications and practice, since my academic background was Business Management.”

Fast forward 2018, Momo has turned www.MomoB.biz into one of the most creative agencies in Cameroon. He works with a team of crazy talented designers. “Our services include graphic design, video advert production, community management, digital marketing training, public relations and communication consultancy.”

He counts among his clients: Total, Orange, Biopharma as well as Cameroon’s National Employment Fund.

He has also initiated an innovative training concept, Beach Camps, where participants learn about inspiring concepts while sipping cocktails on a beachside.

“I don’t think I’ve started yet,” Momo says, in a tone that reminds me of P Diddy. “My goal is to rebrand Africa from a Land of poachers chasing elephants to a land of entrepreneurs chasing their dreams.”

And indeed, his reputation seems to have crossed national boundaries. He was awarded the YALI Spirit Award in Ghana in early 2018, as one of the most creative and impactful leaders in West Africa.

The sun is already setting when I ask about his family. He remains silent. I later learn that he was raised by a single mum along with his four siblings.

He is not married. For a 24-year-old entrepreneur, shouldn’t marriage be a priority?
