French Government denies all claims of involvement in Anglophone Crisis!

Phillipe Larrieu, Counselor at the French Embassy in Cameroon made a brief visit to the North West Region where he met with representatives of the Catholic clergy, leaders of consumer protection associations and other actors in the civil society last Tuesday.

A visit that enabled him to know that news had been going round that France was involved in the Anglophone Crisis, as Father Humphrey Tata Mbuy suggested, that in the region, many people suspect France's intrusion in the situation.

To reassure the prelates, the diplomat said that "no French military has been deployed in the north-west and south-west regions. There are only 14 French military attachés in Cameroon and all are in Yaoundé."

He added that the military cooperation between Cameroon and France comes down to the intelligence assistance in the fight against Boko Haram in the Far North, the training of gendarmes in the Eiforces which also teaches respect for human rights.

Having listened to the clergy and the leaders of the teachers' unions, who spoke about the reasons that led to the strike, Phillipe Larrieu thinks that:

"there are many possibilities for a dialogue that will allow us to put an end to this crisis. . The first thing I said to my interlocutors here in Bamenda is that I did not come to give lessons Of course we have ideas on the question but there is no question for France to go and say that it is the solution, because the solution comes from the Cameroonians themselves. On the other hand, on the way to reach this solution, we agree that this will result from a dialogue as sincere as possible, respectful of the identities of each one," he said.
