2018 Elections: OIF officials in Cameroon to inspect electoral system

A delegation from the International Organization of Francophonie (OIF) is currently in Cameroon to assess the country’s electoral system.

The team dispatch to Cameroon by the Secretary General of (OIF) Michaëlle Jean, is headed by Désiré Kadré Ouedraogo.

After holding talks with the Minister Delegate at the Ministry of External Relations in charge of Relations with the Islamic World, Adoum Gargoum earlier this week, Mr Kadré told reporters the organisation is out to support and accompany the government and people of Cameroon to organise free, fair and transparent elections.

He added that his team will carry out a long term observation and listen to all stakeholders of the electoral process in Cameroon in order to determine the areas in which La Francophonie could bring its support for government to organise free, fair and transparent elections.

The high-level delegation is programmed to work in Cameroon up to September 22, 2017.

Unless there is a change in the electoral calendar, Cameroon will in 2018 have four important electoral events, notably the presidential, senatorial, legislative and municipal elections.
