Catholic mission schools remain closed as students resume school for the final term of the Academic year

Classes resume today across the country to mark the beginning of the 3rd term of the 2016/2017 academic year. Effervescence has regained in most schools, as students re-unit with friends and teachers after being separated for at least two weeks.

The 3rd term which comes on the hills of Easter holiday is usually the shortest but most decisive, and it is usually marked by official end of year course and promotion examination.

However students in the English speaking regions of Cameroon have witnessed a tougher academic year, characterised by intense protest and Ghost towns which has caused students to lose at least 4 months of effective classes. Higher institutions in that part of the country like the University of Buea is resuming for the second semester, when first semester examinations have not yet been written.

Meanwhile doors of Catholic mission schools remain closed, and the Archbishop and auxiliary Bishop of Bamenda are expected to appear before the Bamenda Court of First Instance on 21st April, to respond to a direct summons served to them by a group named the Consortium of Parents, for among other charges, failing to ask parents to send their children back to school.
