29,250 candidates have been registered in Cameroon to sit for the 2017 GCE examinations, far below the 182,000 registered in 2016 to take the exams.

This drop in the number of registered candidates was revealed in Yaounde by the registrar of the GCE board Dr. Humphrey Ekema Monono, during a meeting with Secondary Education Minister Jean Ernest Bibehe Messina Ngalle.

The registrar also revealed during the meeting, that he board will need an extra 769 million francs CFA and 1.1 Billion francs CFA, to implement plan “A” and plan “B” security measures across its 537 accommodation centers nationwide.

The slight increase in the exams this year will be at the level of examination centers as Dr. Humphrey Ekema announced that registration centers will be moved from 1,337 in 2016 to 1,441 in 2017.
