Polls opened at 7am local time in Angola’s general elections and reports say voting started out slow.

Few people turned up early Wednesday morning to cast their ballots for both the parliamentary and presidential slots.

Six parties are vying to take over the seat of outgoing President Eduardo dos Santos.

The political parties include the ruling MPLA led by Joao Lourenco, the main opposition party UNITA led by Isaias Samakuva, FNLA led by Lucas Benghim Gonda, PRS led by Benedito Daniel, APN led by Quintino Antonio, and the coalition CASA-CE party led by Abel Epalanga Chivukuvuku.

Election stats:
About 9 million voters are eligible to cast ballots.
There are 220 parliamentary seats up for grabs
Six parties are involved in the process
This is the fourth election since the return to multi-party democracy in 1992
